We retained Jamal Saberi of Saberi Design Build to oversee a partial remodel of our mid-century modern Eichler home. After evaluating several bids, we moved forward with Jamal given his demonstrated experience working with post and beam construction, as well as his understanding of modern design. He thoughtfully oversaw this involved project, including a complete master bathroom remodel, design and installation of new kitchen feature wall tile, and developing design solutions to open up dark office and hallway spaces.
From the project onset, Jamal understood and accommodated our preference to play an active role in the final design decisions of our home. We wanted to make unique and modern changes, while being respectful to our home's architectural history. Jamal understood our needs and helped develop our broad, general vision into a concrete and effective design. Jamal presented us with an array of options and actively engaged in conversations with us on finishes. He remained extremely responsive throughout our project's shifting scope.
As the project progressed, Jamal helped us navigate the complex structural, plumbing and electrical upgrades needed to achieve our vision, while communicating his detailed knowledge of applicable regulations. With his creative recommendaitons, we were able to achieve design solutions that retained the Eichler aesthetic while meeting our city's energy codes. It's important to add that when working with Jamal, we also gained access to his network of construction professionals, artisans, and craftsmen, including a talented structural engineer. Jamal helped us retain a gifted carpenter who custom built a gorgeous piece for our space. In addition, Jamal has cultivated relationships with our local permit office and understood their applicable work processes, which was key in obtaining timely permit approval.
At project completion, we now enjoy a beautiful and light filled remodeled home. Our master bathroom, which was once disjointed and lacking in flow, is a peaceful and modern architectural highlight. In the kitchen, Jamal helped us achieve a unique artistic addition complementing our home's mid-century modern aesthetic. In the office and hallway spaces, Jamal's recommended egress design changes facilitates indoor-outdoor living.
Having worked directly with other contractors in the past, retaining Saberi Design Build not only saved us valuable time, but greatly reduced the stress and risks associated with directly overseeing a home remodel project.
